Bradd S. Atkinson is the Founder and President of Risk Mitigation, LLC, a Maryland-based consulting firm providing Safety & Security Assessments, Emergency Operations Plan Development, and a diversified suite of Training Programs for independent schools, public schools, houses of worship, and corporate clients nationwide.

A retired Baltimore County Police Officer First Class, Bradd served in a range of roles including Traffic Resource Management, Communications, the Special Response Team, and the Adopt-a-Class program, where he taught crime prevention to students. After retiring from law enforcement, he moved into the private security sector, serving in leadership roles with several national companies and overseeing large-scale security operations.

Bradd has also served with Operation Delaware Counter Terrorism and the International Cargo Security Council, contributing to crime prevention, anti-terrorism efforts, and risk management.

His extensive professional training includes programs through FEMA, DHS, NFPA, NASRO, and other organizations in the National Incident Management System, Incident Command Systems, Mass Casualty Incidents, Emergency Management and Preparedness for Schools and Houses of Worship, Cargo Security, Target Hardening, Characteristics of Armed Subjects, Active Shooter Response, Close Quarters Defense, Counter Terrorism, Workplace Violence, Background Investigation, and Visitor Management.

He is trained in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design and has worked with architects to improve target-hardening designs. He is experienced with surveillance camera and access control systems and is a certified AMAG Access Control Operator. Bradd is also trained in Behavioral Threat Assessment, is a Certified School Resource Officer through the National Association of School Resource Officers, a certified Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response Program Specialist through NFPA 3000, and an Active Shooter Response Instructor.

Bradd has presented at national conferences and, in 2017, received the Security Director of the Year Award from the Maryland Center for School Safety in recognition of his dedication and commitment to the school community.

He is also the published author of A Blueprint for Safer Schools: Implementing the Layers of Campus Security.
